Encyclopedia of Geographic Information Science (NEW)

Encyclopedia of Geographic Information Science (NEW)
ISBN: 1412913136 | 584 pages | PDF | 11 MB
Most of the topics in this encyclopedia will remain important for years to come. Many of the topics here are germane to geography such as the Modifiable Areal Unit Problem, spatial autocorrelation, mental maps, and scale. For these reasons as well as for its sheer readability and usefulness, I believe that this book will serve as a practical reference for geography and GIS educators, practitioners, and university students long into the future. It’s not a reference for taking up space on the shelf, but one for the top of the desk, to be referred to often.”
-Dr. Joseph J. Kerski, ESRI Education Manager

Geographic information science (GIScience) is an emerging field that combines aspects of many different disciplines. Spatial literacy is rapidly becoming recognized as a new, essential pier of basic education, alongside grammatical, logical and mathematical literacy. By incorporating location as an essential but often overlooked characteristic of what we seek to understand in the natural and built environment, geographic information science (GIScience) and systems (GISystems) provide the conceptual foundation and tools to explore this new frontier.

The Encyclopedia of Geographic Information Science covers the essence of this exciting, new, and expanding field in an easily understood but richly detailed style. In addition to contributions from some of the best recognized scholars in GIScience, this volume contains contributions from experts in GIS’ supporting disciplines who explore how their disciplinary perspectives are expanded within the context of GIScience-what changes when consideration of location is added, what complexities in analytical procedures are added when we consider objects in 2, 3 or even 4 dimensions, what can we gain by visualizing our analytical results on a map or 3D display?

New Photonics Technologies For The Information Age: The Dream Of Ubitquitous Services

New Photonics Technologies For The Information Age: The Dream Of Ubitquitous Services
236 pages | 2004-10-30 | PDF | 7,3 MB
This far-reaching resource gives you an in-depth look at the technological developments fueling the drive to the realization of ubiquitous IT services. Based on groundbreaking papers presented at the International Symposium on New Frontiers for Ubiquitous IT Services, the book describes a wide range of state-of-the-art engineering advances in photonics, sensing, electronics, micro-mechatronics, networks, and communication schemes, introduced by some of the leading pioneers in the field. You get details on cutting-edge design innovations in technologies like nanophotonics, femtosecond pulse processing, and optical coherence tomography together with a thorough look at emerging applications that run the gamut from biomedical sensors and intra-body networks to “smart” buildings and long haul communications.
You also get a solid read on the increasingly successful use of photonic crystal fibers, quasi-phasematched nonlinear optics, optical fiber sensors, and millimeter-wave photonic technologies in communications and sensing. A section on the standardization for optical communications and sensors, plus a look at the challenges in ubiquitous IT services yet to be tackled, round out this indispensable report on the advances that have brought us to the threshold of a new age in information technology.

Information Science

Information Science
Author: David G. Luenberger
Publisher: Princeton University Press
Language: English
Number of Pages: 440
PDF: 1.76 MB
ISBN-10: 0691124183
ISBN-13: 978-0691124186

From cell phones to Web portals, advances in information and communications technology have thrust society into an information age that is far-reaching, fast-moving, increasingly complex, and yet essential to modern life. Now, renowned scholar and author David Luenberger has produced Information Science, a text that distills and explains the most important concepts and insights at the core of this ongoing revolution. The book represents the material used in a widely acclaimed course offered at Stanford University.

Drawing concepts from each of the constituent subfields that collectively comprise information science, Luenberger builds his book around the five “E’s” of information: Entropy, Economics, Encryption, Extraction, and Emission. Each area directly impacts modern information products, services, and technology–everything from word processors to digital cash, database systems to decision making, marketing strategy to spread spectrum communication.

To study these principles is to learn how English text, music, and pictures can be compressed, how it is possible to construct a digital signature that cannot simply be copied, how beautiful photographs can be sent from distant planets with a tiny battery, how communication networks expand, and how producers of information products can make a profit under difficult market conditions.

The book contains vivid examples, illustrations, exercises, and points of historic interest, all of which bring to life the analytic methods presented:

*Presents a unified approach to the field of information science
*Emphasizes basic principles
*Includes a wide range of examples and applications
*Helps students develop important new skills
*Suggests exercises with solutions in an instructor’s manual

Information Security Management Handbook 6th edition

Information Security Management Handbook 6th edition
English | PDF | ISBN-13: 978-0849374951 | 4,3 MB
Book Description
Never before have there been so many laws designed to keep corporations honest. New laws and regulations force companies to develop stronger ethics policies and the shareholders themselves are holding publicly traded companies accountable for their practices. Consumers are also concerned over the privacy of their personal information and current and emerging legislation is reflecting this trend. Under these conditions, it can be difficult to know where to turn for reliable, applicable advice.

The sixth edition of the Information Security Management Handbook addresses up-to-date issues in this increasingly important area. It balances contemporary articles with relevant articles from past editions to bring you a well grounded view of the subject. The contributions cover questions important to those tasked with securing information assets including the appropriate deployment of valuable resources as well as dealing with legal compliance, investigations, and ethics. Promoting the view that the management ethics and values of an organization leads directly to its information security program and the technical, physical, and administrative controls to be implemented, the book explores topics such as risk assessments; metrics; security governance, architecture, and design; emerging threats; standards; and business continuity and disaster recovery. The text also discusses physical security including access control and cryptography, and a plethora of technology issues such as application controls, network security, virus controls, and hacking.

Portable Picture Information Extractor v4.1 (NEW)

Portable Picture Information Extractor v4.1 (NEW)
A file renaming utility which helps users to extract image information
Picture Information Extractor is a file renaming utility which helps users to extract their camera information from the raw .jpg or .tif files and rename the PIC000XX.JPG filename to a more computer friendly name keyed to the date and time as well as other photo information.

This lets your favorite picture viewer display your photos in correct chronological order.

Picture Information Extractor shows you exposure information
for each picture, therefore you can better understand digital camera functions by analyzing shutter, flash use, zoom position, aperture and quality settings.

The exposure information is saved in the .jpg file - as long as the file is not modified. Any modification to the JPG file will destroy this data. To prevent loss of picture information PIE records exposure data in standard text files, which also may be imported into a spreadsheet or database.

Picture Information Extractor is also a file manager. Move, Copy, Delete and Rename JPG files.

Picture Information Editor has the unique ability to rename picture files keyed to the date and time as well as other photo information, handled by a filename mask which can be customized easily.
